New York Times Magazine Suggests $95 Handmade Bowls to "Eliminate That Kitsch Factor"
This is one of those WTF moments. The November 8th, 2008 issue of the New York Times Magazine had Amanda Hesser doing one of the recipe reduxes, where she revisits a recipe for Green Goddess Salad from 1948 — even April Bloomfield nicely makes a guest appearance.
There's a "multimedia" popup that's just a graphic, but it's the caption that got me:
A handmade bowl eliminates the kitsch factor. $480 for a set of five.
I know the New York Times targets that upper 5% wealthy-types, promoting super-expensive goods, and that's OK with me. But seriously, anyone who can afford $96 a bowl isn't going to be making their own salad dressing.
