Arlington, Texas Lays Off All of Their Restaurant Inspectors

Oh the global economic collapse. Now the public safety is at risk: Arlington, Texas has laid off the five restaurant inspectors who monitored sanitation conditions within the city's nearly 2,000 restaurants, reports WFAA TV in Dallas.

City officials estimate that they'll save $100,000 a year and intend to outsource restaurant inspections to a third party, but have no official plan set: "Unless that happens before January 22nd, when the inspectors are no longer employed, restaurants will essentially police themselves in Arlington."
