Chopped: The Best Episode Yet [video]

Last night's episode of Chopped was the best so far. Finally, finally, there was some serious talent — the contestants from the show, John Keller (the former Executive Chef at Bruno Jamais), Andrea Bergquist, (the former Executive Chef of Merkato 55), Ed Witt (the former Executive Chef of Bloomingdale Road), and Josh Emett, (Chef de Cuisine of Gordon Ramsay at The London), were of a higher caliber than previous episodes, making for some pretty good television.

The craziest part of the show was Ed Witt dropping a piece of raw beef shoulder on the floor, picking it up, cooking it, and serving to the judges, who were not happy about it. Amazingly, the judges forgave him and didn't eliminated him, letting him advance to the next round.

Most impressive was Josh Emett's refined, Michelin-style cooking that sort of demolished the competition — even the judges commented on how cool and confident he was while cooking. Geoffrey Zakarian, not a fan of Emett's style, said of his entree, "Everything is just so precise and wonderful and technical — you don't want to sleep with a technician, you have to have some love. There's no love in the food. Boring." Marc Murphy wasn't having any of it though, calling Zakarian's argument "ridiculous."
