Saturday Night Live Sells Out to Pepsi [videos]
Saturday Night Live reworked their MacGruber skits into three 30-second Pepsi ads, and aired them during the commercial breaks of SNL — one of them was even aired during the Super Bowl. They went as far as changing his name to "Pepsuber." Hell, they even brought Richard Dean Anderson —MacGyver himself— on for the ride. Turns out that Pepsi paid SNL $3 million to have the brand placed in the sketches.
People can go on all they like about how SNL is mocking itself for selling out, or how this is a commentary on product placement (which it's not). It's pretty brazen of SNL to sell off their intellectual property and transform it into a commercial for so little money.
But the biggest problem: the MacGruber skits were never truly funny in the first place, and these commercials are even less so.
