Sierra Nevada Turns Waste from Beer-Brewing Process Into Fuel
Is there no end to what beer can do? The miracle nectar dulls our pain, makes lions of mice, and turns dull soccer matches into those amusing affairs you see on Most Shocking Videos — and now it powers our cars!
The Sacramento Business Journal reports that California’s Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has teamed up with the microrefiner E-Fuel, who have developed a washing-machine-sized home unit that can turn waste from the beer-brewing process into ethanol, which in turn can be used to power the brewery’s vehicles.
Soon, Sierra Nevada will be offering the fuel to hundreds of area customers. So now that flex-fuel vehicle in the driveway is just one more reason to hoist a few cold ones. As if we needed a reason.
