South Park Makes Fun of Sur La Table [video]

In honor of the baffling choice by the IACP to give Sur La Table's cookbook The Art and Soul of Baking, the win in the Baking category at the 2009 Cookbook Awards, here's a clip from a recent episode of South Park, where Stan tries to return a margarita machine to a Sur La Table [...]

Get a Job: Apprentice for Jim Lahey of Sullivan Street Bakery

Photograph by h-bomb
Here's a great job we spotted on Craigslist: an apprenticeship with Jim Lahey of the famed Sullivan Street Bakery and the pizza restaurant Co. (that just got a one-star review in The New York Times). The job description reads:
The right candidate will have a culinary background, be passionate about food, able [...]

Food-Inspired Tattoos by Nick Baxter

meatcase/briefsteak by Nick Baxter. Photos reprinted with permission.
Originally fascinated by the meatcase/briefcase tattoo pictured above, I thought that’s where the post would end. But no, a scan through all the 250 tattoos on Nick Baxter's website revealed so much more.
Behold, a rotting meat orchid "ripe with decay," a tattoo called Rebirth complete with a sockeye [...]

Burger King Kids' Meal Ad Combines Sir Mix-a-Lot's 'Baby Got Back,' SpongeBob Square Pants [video]

Here's a creepy commercial for Burger King, a bizarre parody that combines Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back" and SpongeBob Squarepants. Sample lyric: "I like square butts and I cannot lie." The ad is complete with dancers shaking their phone book-packing butts — this is promoting their 99 cent kids' meal?

Top Chef Masters Getting All Hipster

Hitting the inbox was a press release promoting Top Chef Masters, featuring well-known successful chefs (Bayless, Dufresne, Hubert Keller, Michael Schlow, etc.) — but what caught our eye was the show will have as guest stars and judges Neil Patrick Harris, Zooey Deschanel, and Lost writers and executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof. Hipster [...]

A Note to Shoes For Crews: The Chopping Block Got Cancelled

Shoes for Crews is running some contextual ads via Google AdSense on our posts about The Chopping Block, since they're "the premier chefs' footwear as seen on the NBC restaurant reality TV series The Chopping Block."
We gleaned some information from the show-specific page, probably more than anyone needs to know at this point: "Shoes For [...]

Get a Job: Rickshaw Dumpling Truck Hiring

Photograph by weapong
We love the idea of working in a street truck in New York City, dishing up tasty foodstuffs to the hungry masses. And lo and behold, Rickshaw Dumpling is hiring. The job description caught our eye because they ask for people who "can hold their ground with other vendors," as though there's some [...]

NBC Running Unaired The Chopping Block Episodes Online

NBC might have stopped airing The Chopping Block, but it looks like they're going to run the episodes online — last week's unaired episode is on Hulu and also on NBC's website. We watched most of the episode, and it's pretty uneventful, ie, just as bad as previous episodes.
Highlights of the episode include Marco Pierre [...]
