Kentuckians May Need Seatbelt Extenders
Fast food-loving seatbelt-wearing residents of Louisville can rejoice at their local McDonald's: Today, drivers and passengers that drive through a McDonald’s wearing a seatbelt will receive coupons courtesy of the Golden Arches. (Those not wearing seat belts won't be given citations but instead will receive an educational card "explaining the benefits of the devices.")
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Office of Highway Safety is introducing the giveaway as part of its "Click It or Ticket" campaign to combat the state's 73 percent seatbelt usage rate — near the bottom nationally.
And now the nation’s seventh fattest state has a reason to get even fatter.
To make the irony even more delicious: Obesity is actually linked to decreased seatbelt use.
