Paintings of Food in Austin by Kaci Beeler [food art]
Freelance artist and actor Kaci Beeler created a series of food paintings in Spring 2009 based on all her favorite and “most delicious” Austin, Texas food finds. Beeler worked off photographs of her favorite meals to create the series of 10x10" oil paintings. Almost like an homage to a restaurant menu, or for that matter, the restaurant itself, Beeler names all of the works after the name of the dish and where the dish is made. She explained to us her inspiration:
Once I fell into doing these paintings a window of possibilities opened for me. I've always been intrigued by the aesthetics of food and the interplay between the physical necessity for food and the natural visual appeal of food - so this is a subject that feels very open for me.
On her site, she explains the reasoning behind the series:
These recent paintings combine several personal themes for me - my long time obsession with food imagery, my daily struggles with non-erosive reflux disease, and the gluttonous, excessive joy of eating out local in Austin, Texas. I did indeed consume all of the food depicted, and loved every bite...well, at least as it was going down.
Although half of the current collection has already sold, Beeler let us know that she’s planning a new cupcake and cheeseburger series for the fall. In the mean time, you can buy the remaining original works by contacting her through her website, or you can stop by the Salvage Vanguard Theatre Gallery through June 28th in Austin, where the entire series is currently on display.
