  • Above: Given the brief "a soft good that relates to eating," CMU design students developed a prototype for "The Chef's Portmanteau," a backpack with a removable knife storage bag.

  • Say hello to Food52, now in public beta, a recipe community website from Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs. Its goal is a crowd-sourced cookbook, built out of recipes chosen from weekly recipe contests, editorial selection, and public voting. HarperStudio is set to publish the book.

    Unless I'm reading those diagrams wrong, I'm pretty sure the Portmanteau also has some cooler-esque/lunchbox-y space, for signature sauces/garnishes/whatnot.
