On Monday the 13th Annual Canstruction competition opened in Boston at Bunker Hill Community College in Charlestown. 18 local design and construction firms built giant sculptures made entirely out of canned foods, on the themes of food and hunger. At the close of the event, all of the cans (some 40,000 in total) will be donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank, and visitors are encouraged to add a can or two of their own. An open-to-the-public gala and awards ceremony will be held on Friday, October 23, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
