Product Placement in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

In honor of the FTC's new web guidelines requiring bloggers to disclose freebies or payments for reviews, here's a scene from the latest episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in which the guys head out to Dave & Buster's, a sort of Chuck E. Cheese that's nominally for adults. It's some of the most tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic, and yet still egregious product placement : "If you're looking for a better steak in an arcade setting, you are shit out of luck." (And yes, a commercial for D&B aired immediately after this scene).

  1. There was also an obnoxious amount of product placement for Coors.

See, I completely disagree on it being "obnoxious". Both It's Always Sunny and 30 Rock have found ways to exaggerate product placement so that it not only serves its purpose, but also lets you know that the show itself finds the premise ridiculous. I'd rather you be so in my face about it that it's funny then try to casually slip it in. I think it simply adds to the series' sense of humor, and I think it worked very well!
