This week Christie's and Sotheby's auction houses held their Post-War and Contemporary art auctions. The day and evening sales of hundreds of works included a share of paintings devoted to food that go beyond the definition of still lifes. And even though some of the works are decades-old, their subjects remain relevant today, with hamburgers, bacon, and mixology all represented. Below, a chronological tour of selected food art pieces, from Andy Warhol's 1959 "Tom 'N' Jerry" (which sold for $47,500) to Ralph Goings' 2005 "Coffee and Donuts" (which sold for $314,500).
