Yesterday was the first Sunday of Will Cotton's November residency at the New York City gallery-boutique Partners & Spade. Continuing for the next two Sundays (November 15th and 22nd), the artist will be baking and frosting cakes that serve as models in many of his paintings. Cotton literally puts the cocoa in his Rococo works, creating his caramel macaron and cupcake subjects by hand. Here he executes Ladurée recipes while shuffling between the back wall bakery counter and a working oven on the gallery floor, aided by assistants adorned with tiaras sculpted after his edible ephemera.

Cotton produced similar headpieces for the Armitage Gone! Dance company who performed in his work last week at BAM. And this isn's his only foray into fashion for the month. Next Wednesday, Creative Time will host a slumber party at the Ace Hotel debuting a pair of pastry-printed pajamas designed by the artist.

Whether they are baking to sell or baking to paint, those women should have their hair tied back. Doesn't anyone consider hygiene while cooking anymore? Unless the hair sticking out of a cupcake is part of the picture . . .
