  • Jamie Oliver wins the 2009 TED prize that grants him $100,000 -- and something much bigger: "a wish to change the world." He'll unveil the wish on February 10 at TED2010.
  • Regina Schrambling would like you to skip being local for a second (unless you're lucky enough to live in California) and give the gift of candied lemon peel. Might as well make some strawberry jam while you're at it. Two out of three Eat Me Daily editors agree that candied lemon peel as a gift would get you funny looks and grumbled thanks.

  • Portland culinary institute faces class-action lawsuit from "former students who claim they were misled" and spent "tens of thousands of collars [sic] to train to become chefs but ended up making coffee and doing dishes." [via Eater]
  • Jamie Oliver was "threatened" with a lawsuit for using the likeness of the Village People. It's not really news until there's an actual lawsuit, is it?.
  • In the UK, alcohol now costs less than water. Depending on your outlook on things, this is either very good or very bad. [via Coldmud]
