In the latest episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David's out to lunch at the country club and decides that he isn't going to leave an additional tip on top of the mandatory gratuity: "It's an 18% tip included. And then they have a space for an additional tip. What I have to start doing math in my head now? Then what does it come out to, two dollars? I'm leaving an extra two dollars, That makes me look cheap. I'm not leaving any more additional tips. I'm protesting it... I don't care for it."

From last night's Curb Your Enthusiasm: At a party, Larry David spots Christian Slater, who, considering his career lately, is indulging a little too heavily in the caviar. As Slater goes over his "allotment," Larry David tells him: "We have unwritten laws in our society... You take a little bit, and then you step away for twenty minutes, see what kind of action there is. If nobody's taking any, maybe take a little bit more. Step away again. So forth and so on." Perhaps we could all learn something from the wise Larry David.

Update: Apparently, according to Peter Martin, the economics correspondent for Australia's two leading newspapers, this video illustrates the work of Elinor Ostrom for which she just won an Economics Nobel Prize, about the "rules for managing common-pool resources." Go Larry David!

Larry's ex-wife Laurie David — who made her name (or at least, attempted to) as an outspoken environmentalist and Huffpo contributor — seems to have come down with a case of the GOOPs: she's now turned her attention to fixing the problems of the American family. Pub Weekly reports that Grand Central publishing has picked up rights to The Family Table: Everyday Solutions to Reclaim Dinner and Keep Your Kids Connected, a book "about the importance of family dining," including "tips on place setting, conversation topics and dinner-time games, as well as healthy recipes." Whatever.
